With the Leagues transaction date right around the corner, The New Hampshire Wild have announced they will be signing young former big leaguer RHP Jorge De Leon.

De Leon, 28, signed in November 22, 2012 as a Free Agent with the Houston Astros. On October 17, 2013 he was granted Free Agency. On October 29, 2013 he signed as a Free Agent with the Houston Astros. and On October 9, 2014, he was selected off waivers by the Oakland Athletics from the Houston Astros. December 17, 2014 he was released by the Oakland Athletics and signed on December 30, 2014 as a Free Agent with the Chicago Cubs. On April 8, 2015, De Leon was released by the Chicago Cubs but picked up on April 9, 2015 as a Free Agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was released on August 13, 2015 but was later picked up as a Free Agent with the Miami Marlins.

De Leon has had much success in the Major Leagues including a 3 pitch inning versus the Cincinnati Reds.

Jorge is set to meet with the team at Old Orchard Beach as the Wild take on the Surge for a 5 game set. De Leon will take over the closer role and Wild Manager will place current closer Tony McClendon in the set up role. De leon is set to pitch this Friday night at The Ballpark at Old Orchard Beach.

“He’s a big leaguer that is trying to get back into the big leagues. I am going to do everything in my power to help him achieve that as this is what this league is about. Providing those opportunities for players to move to higher levels of baseball. He’s topped out at 98-99 MPH in his career so it should be interesting to watch as he is currently throwing in the mid 94-96 MPH range” – Jerry Gonzalez

The Wild Face the Old Orchard Beach Surge from the 8th to the 12th before heading to Watertown. The 0-4 Wild look to bounce back from their slow start and get first year Manager Jerry Gonzalez their first professional victory as Manager.
